The Consulate invites nationals of Paraguay to contact our
office and participate in the furtherance of cultural and social
relations in Alberta. With your participation, the Consulate seeks
to be a focal point of communication in an effort to foster the
organization and development of the Paraguayan community
in Alberta.

Graduating from law school in 1996, started an internship
with the United Nations International Trade Law Branch
in Vienna, with a focus on international electronic
commerce and cross-border insolvencies.

Thereafter, continued with the United Nations Center for
International Crime Prevention and the United Nations
Development Program, in a joint project, for the
commencement of a criminal justice project in Bosnia
and Herzegovina, a former region of Yugoslavia, declared a
State by virtue of the Dayton Accord, which ended the
war. He worked on reforms that included criminal law and
procedure, juvenile justice and introducing a computerized
case management system in the courts. For more

Returning to Alberta in 2000, he articled for David Yanko
and practices criminal law and personal injury litigation. In
2003 David Yanko and Brad Popovic opened the law firm
where they continue to serve in the area of criminal and
personal injury.

Serving as the Honorary Consul of Paraguay for Alberta,
the office seeks to foster bilateral socio-economic relations
between the Province of Alberta and Paraguay and support
the social and cultural development of Paraguayans in Canada.

Family law is an area of the law that deals with family-related
issues and domestic relations including, but not limited to:

The nature of marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnerships;

Issues arising during marriage, including spousal abuse, legitimacy,
adoption, surrogacy, child abuse, and child abduction

The termination of the relationship and ancillary matters including
divorce, annulment, property settlements, alimony, and parental
responsibility orders (in the United States, child custody and
visitation, child support awards).

The term criminal law, sometimes called penal law, refers to any
of various bodies of rules in different jurisdictions whose common
characteristic is the potential for unique and often severe
impositions as punishment for failure to comply. Criminal
punishment, depending on the offense and jurisdiction, may
include execution, loss of liberty, government supervision (parole
or probation), or fines. There are some archetypal crimes, like
murder, but the acts that are forbidden are not wholly consistent
between different criminal codes, and even within a particular
code lines may be blurred as civil infractions may give rise also
to criminal consequences. Criminal law typically is enforced by
the government, unlike the civil law, which may be enforced by
private parties.

A personal injury occurs when a person has suffered some form
of injury, either physical or psychological, as the result of an
accident or medical malpractice.

The most common type of personal injury claims are road traffic
accidents, accidents at work, tripping accidents, assault
claims, accidents in the home, defective product accidents
and holiday accidents. Indeed, there are a multitude of types
of accident and the term personal injury also incorporates
medical and dental accidents (which lead to numerous
medical and dental negligence claims every year) and conditions
which are often classified as industrial disease cases. Industrial
disease type cases include asbestosis and mesothelioma, chest
diseases (e.g. emphysema, pneumoconiosis, silicosis, chronic
bronchitis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and
chronic obstructive airways disease), vibration white finger,
occupational deafness, occupational stress, contact dermititus,
and repetitive strain injury cases.
